DONT PUT YOUR 360S ON CARPET!!! MAJOR DAMAGE

never ever do that, as a 360 modder and builder (integrated water cooling) i have seen the terrible effects of having your 360 on the carpet for ventilation reason, carpet will not let any air thru the ventilation holes. TEMPATURES WILL SOAR if you place it on a carpet, i know this because i have run tests with my custom 360 (which obviusly has internal thermometers with an led indicatr, lol)and tempatures have gone up by around 50 degrees higher than usual........just dont do it

Does wood work better? I have mine on a plank of wood. It's my pull out keyboard stand from my desk. So most likely putting your 360 on carpet and leaving it on for long periods of time leads to the hardware failure that is the RROD also known as Three red rings of light.

it all depends on the orientation of your xbox. Is it horizontal or vertical. If it is Horizontal try to prop up the xbox a little so the vents aren't been covered.
Same deal if you have it vertical. Either buy a stand for it or prop it up 2cm+ so the bottom vents aren't blocked. Also something alot of people aren't aware of...your xbox won't get as hot when you use HDMI! try it for yourself...connect the component cable and game for 30mins...check the temp...then goto the dash for 5-10mins to let it cool off, switch off the xbox and switch over to the HDMI cable, game for 30mins and check temp. There is quite a difference.

I'm not going into explain why there is a difference since ppl prolly won't care. It's just a tip better video + cooler = a happier xbox.

Also DO NOT use any cooling fan that connects directly with the xbox power socket. The ones that connect via USB are OK. you can also make your own using PC fans and just connect it up using a molex to AC cable.

Also a big no no is to have the xbox in one of those TV cabinets in one of the smaller racks/shelves.
Keep as much room around it as possible, and keep the power supply away from anything else as it does also warmup (especially the older 230w models)

i felt the sting of keeping my xbox on the carpet late september it bassicaly broke on me

the motherboard and cd drive broke and i had to get it repaired only £65 pounds though quite cheap

the parts were replaced so i hope i got the falcon chipset that doesnt heat as much all i know is that its more quiet so yea its better
